Still Have Snow Leopard? You May Be At Risk

It might surprise you to learn that one in five Macs still runs on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, which is now over four years old. You may think that with Apple providing its latest OS X Mavericks for free, via the App Store, that this figure would be minimal. However, Snow Leopard was the last version of OS X that could run on Apple’s PowerPc processor.

If your business is still running Snow Leopard it is worth knowing that it has been left out of Apple’s last two security patches. Only last week a patch was issued for Mavericks, plus the previous two versions, Mountain Lion and Lion. However, Snow Leopard was ignored.  A similar situation arose in December last year when Apple updated Safari.

In fact the last time that Snow Leopard was patched was as long ago as September 2013. Now in fairness to Apple, they have supported Snow Leopard for longer than the traditional lifespan of an OS X release. Normally, support ends when the release becomes two versions behind the current OS.

Therefore, if you are still running Snow Leopard it is now time to upgrade your OS X to Mavericks and ensure the security of your system. Obviously, if your business is still running on a PowerPc, talk to us about our how flexi-lease can make bringing the latest Apple equipment into your business affordable.
