Sony Pulled Out Of The PC Market

Early this month came the announcement that Sony was pulling out of the PC market and selling off its Vaio computer division.

Citing a change in market and a desire to concentrate on its mobile product line-up of smartphones and tablets, there will no doubt be a huge number of loyal customers that will feel Apple’s main challenger has just been seen off.

For many Windows based users, Sony’s Vaio product line provided the attractiveness and sophistication that Apple customers take for granted. Their products seemed to be just that little bit better than a standard laptop.

It even seems that the late Steve Jobs was attracted by Sony. Former Sony President Kunitake Ando has stated recently that he was once met by Steve Jobs after a round of golf. The story goes that Steve Jobs was waiting for him, with a Sony laptop under his arm that was running the brand new Apple OS X software.

The belief is that whilst Apple shies away from working with other manufactures they were sufficiently impressed by Sony’s range of personal computers. It is a shame that we will lose the Vaio range and perhaps if Sony hadn’t dismissed Job’s offer perhaps things may have ended a little differently.
